Therapist matching
You don't have to choose a therapist on your own.
Specialties, approaches, credentials, personalities. When you're already stretched, comparing a dozen profiles can feel like one more job. Research on decision-making is clear: more options often means less confidence. So we do the sorting with you.
Searching on your own
- Reading bio after bio, unsure what the letters mean
- Guessing whether someone "gets" your situation
- Booking, then wondering if it's the right fit
With a free matching call
- A real conversation about what you need
- A recommendation based on concern, approach and personality
- Starting therapy with more confidence and less second-guessing

Why it's worth it
Your well-being is worth investing in.
We invest in our careers, our homes, our families and our physical health. Our emotional well-being is often the thing that quietly slips to the bottom of the list.
Physician and author Dr. Gabor Maté has written for decades about the connection between chronic stress, our emotional lives and our physical health. We see the same truth in our work every day: what we carry quietly rarely stays quiet. It shows up in our sleep, our patience, our relationships and our bodies.
Therapy is time and money well spent when it helps you understand what's happening beneath the surface, respond to stress in healthier ways, and make changes that last beyond the therapy room.
Stress doesn't always look like falling apart. Sometimes it looks like…
- Pushing through, week after week
- Overthinking at 2am
- A shorter fuse with the people you love
- Feeling tired but wired, or quietly disconnected
- Doing well on paper, and not feeling it
You don't need to wait for a crisis. Many of our clients come to us while they're still functioning, because they'd rather not keep paying the hidden cost of pushing through.

Questions
Starting therapy in Calgary: common questions
Something else on your mind? Call or text (403) 488-8912.
How does the free matching call work?
It's a free, confidential 15-minute phone call with our team. We'll ask briefly what's bringing you in and what you'd like in a therapist, answer your questions about fees and insurance, and recommend one or two clinicians who fit. There's no obligation to book.
How much does a psychologist cost in Calgary?
At Core Psychology, a 50-minute session is $235–$250 with a Registered Psychologist, $235 with a Canadian Certified Counsellor and $125 with a supervised practicum therapist. The Psychologists' Association of Alberta recommends a fee in the same range for psychologists.
Is therapy covered by insurance or Alberta Health Care?
Alberta Health Care doesn't cover private psychology services. Most extended health plans through employers, schools or private insurers do reimburse sessions, and some funding programs (Victim Services, Veterans Affairs, First Nations Health benefits, MVA claims) may also apply.
Do I need a referral to see a psychologist in Alberta?
No. You can book with us directly. Some insurance plans ask for a physician's note for reimbursement, so it's worth checking your policy.
What's the difference between a psychologist, a provisional psychologist and a counsellor?
Registered Psychologists are regulated by the College of Alberta Psychologists. Provisional psychologists have completed their master's degree and are working toward full registration under supervision. Canadian Certified Counsellors hold a master's degree and certification from the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. All provide evidence-based therapy; the matching call helps you decide what fits your needs and insurance.
Do you offer online therapy outside Calgary?
Yes. We offer secure video sessions across Alberta, including Airdrie, Red Deer, Lethbridge and Medicine Hat, and some clinicians can see clients in other provinces.
How do I know if I'm ready for therapy?
You don't need to be in crisis. Many people start because they feel stuck, stretched thin or want to understand themselves better. If you're wondering, a short conversation is a low-pressure way to find out.
